Roots in Portage County
I grew up in Portage County on a small mixed-use farm in New Hope Township, where hard work and education were deeply valued. I attended Rosholt High School and later UW–Stevens Point. I still reside on part of that original farm in New Hope with my wife Pat.
Service and Leadership
I have served two terms on the Portage County Board, was elected County Board Chair, and served as Portage County Executive during a medical emergency. I have also served on multiple county planning and review committees.
I worked in the trades as a Union Laborer and Journeyman Carpenter, taught the State Apprenticeship Program at North Central Technical College, and later founded a residential and small commercial construction company in Amherst, building custom homes across the county and state.
Trades, Teaching, and Business
At age 48, after my children were grown, I completed a PhD in Geosciences at the Australian National University. I am a former President of the Wisconsin Archaeological Survey and currently serve on the Governor-appointed Wisconsin Historic Preservation Review Board.
